How I Work

My promises to you:

  1. I don’t charge for initial meetings and ALMOST never charge for discovery meetings. I want to get to know you in a pressure-free environment where we can really dig into your needs. If multiple meetings or a great deal of research is involved, I will provide a quote before we go any further. Fair enough?
  2. I’ll ask A LOT of questions! Seriously. So don’t get annoyed and hit me. Want to be prepared (for the questions, not the hitting)? Visit my “Be Ready for Writing” page to get an idea of some of the things I typically need to know.
  3. I’ll be fast. My writing chops were honed in the deadline-driven world of journalism. I don’t mess around!
  4. I’ll be collaborative. I ADORE working with creative directors, graphic designers, webmeisters and anyone necessary to make projects happen.
  5. I’ll be fun. I love what I do and I want you to love it, too!
  6. I’ll be flexible. Anyone who tells you they get it right the first time, every time is lying. I’m a good marksman but I have missed the target a time or two. Just tell me and I’ll make it right – at NO CHARGE.
  7. I’ll be respectful. Whether I’m freelancing for your agency or working for your company through an agency, I will always respect that relationship. I don’t poach!
  8. I’ll be honest. I’ve been in the industry for a while, and I’ve heard all kinds of horror stories. You’ll get charged what I quote, period. If the scope of a project changes (if there is more writing involved than originally planned), I will give you a new quote. If a project is outside my skill or knowledge set, I will let you know.
  9. I’ll be accurate. I proofread my copy. A LOT. It’s almost an obsession! After it leaves my hands and goes to a print artist or web designer, I ask to see it AGAIN for another proof to ensure everything is STILL hunky-dory.

What I’d like from you:

  1. Have background information ready if possible. The more information you can provide, the better I can help! Visit “Be Ready for Writing” for a handy copywriting questionnaire.
  2. Give my work a look. REALLY pore over the copy I supply. I don’t charge for changes and multiple drafts, unless you completely switch your goals. (In other words, if it’s you and not me.) Now is the time to make changes — before a production team takes over.
  3. Pay me in a timely fashion. Look, I’m a small business person, so I get that it’s tough out there. I also get bills, lots of ‘em! So you have 30 days to pay me after I deliver the final draft and send you an invoice. After 30 days, I’ll send you a nice note. After 60 days, I charge 5% monthly interest, which won’t be so nice.
  4. Send me final artwork! I’m proud of what I do and want to show off. I’d love a pdf of print pieces, a link to your website or other sample of how I helped you. If you don’t want me using your promotional pieces, that’s okay, too.
